Canada’s Best National Parks

Blue Ridge Parkway - RVing
Even though your RV or trailer has been put in storage for the season, it’s never too early to be planning next year’s big adventure. Not only is Canada huge, diverse, and usually pretty polite, but it is also home to some of the world’s most beautiful provincial and national parks. Canada’s national parks were established as a way to preserve and respect the natural beauty that exists across the country. They are designated areas where the habitat, wildlife, and ecosystem are preserved and maintained. As of 2015, there are 38 National Parks located in Canada.

At first, it was named Banff Hot Springs Reserve, and has since been renamed to Rocky Mountains National Park. Between 1908-1912, four more national parks were established in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Instead of attracting a tourist crowd like the park in Banff, these parks were intended to be wildlife preservation areas. It wasn’t until 1911 that the Dominion Parks Branch, later to become Parks Canada, was established. Ever since then, Parks Canada has dedicated their efforts to preserving, protecting, and making Canada’s immense beauty accessible. But what parks should be on your national park bucket list?

We know that this is a bit of a trek, but it’s worth it! Thousands of people flock to the park’s Green Point Campground every year for the 22 kilometres of sandy beach and ocean air that line Long Beach. With both walk in and drive in oceanfront campsites, you won’t waste any time surfing, watching the waves, or exploring the coastline. Don’t forget your wet suit though, as the water is usually hovering around 10 degrees celsius all year round! The world famous surf town of Tofino is only about 20 minutes from the campground.

Lake Location For RVingJasper National Park, Alberta

If the mountains are calling you, head for Jasper National Park. From the Columbia Icefield Campground you will be surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges, and just a short drive from downtown Banff and Lake Louise. The campground’s biggest draw is the Icefields Parkway, which sits at an elevation of 2000 metres. Be warned though, you won’t be able to take your RV or trailer up here. Instead only cars and tents can camp up here.

Lake Superior Provincial Park, Ontario

Lake Superior itself is one of Ontario’s beautiful attractions. It’s immensity alone is impressive! From the campsites here you will be treated to spectacular views of the lake, cliffs, beaches, inland lakes, waterfalls, and river valleys. You should plan to spend a few days here, so that you can take advantage of the world class hiking opportunities that lead you along the shoreline of Lake Superior. The Agawa Rock Pictographs, which are 35 red ochre images on ancient rocks are also an attraction here.
