There’s Still Time For One Last Road Trip Before You Store Your Trailer!

You don’t have to make it a cross country adventure or anything, but before it starts snowing in Ottawa, we encourage you to bottle up as much summer sunshine as you possibly can!

Ottawa and the surrounding area has dozens of cultural, recreational, and commercial activities just waiting to become your Long Weekend destination! And with a trailer, you are lucky to have just a little more flexibility than those relying on campgrounds and hotel rooms. Read on to learn about some of our favourite last minute road trip destinations in and around the Ottawa area!

Trip #1: Vermont

While it may feel like a lifetime away, Vermont really isn’t all that far away! Burlington, Vermont is one of the state’s most attractive and exciting city. You could say, it’s kind of the Portland of the east coast! Did you know that Waterbury, Vermont is home to the delicious Ben & Jerry’s ice cream? What better way to round out your summer than a visit to one of the world’s most delicious inventors of ice cream!? Make sure to stop in Montpelier, the state capital. This 1950’s feeling town will have you looking for the closest diner. From downtown Ottawa to Burlington, Vermont you should schedule about 4 leisurely hours, not including the border crossing.

Trip #2: Mont Tremblant

Don’t think for a second that Mont Tremblant is just for the winter! Oh no, Mont Tremblant is a gorgeous resort village that leaves you feeling like you have stepped into a quaint European town. From downtown Ottawa, you can be having lunch on a patio in Mont Tremblant in just under two hours. Trip #3: Smith Falls

Smith Falls, located an hour and half outside of Kingston, and just one hour from Ottawa is part of a UNESCO Rideau Heritage Route System. Smith Falls is widely considered to be the “heart of the Rideau Canal!” As such, this quaint town is full of historical landmarks, fantastic family restaurants, and scenic lookout points. To arrive in Smith Falls, you will drive past both Manotick and Merrickville, which are both fantastic destinations in their own right!
